The Caucasus
After Turkey and Russia, I wanted to see the three Caucasus republics - Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. So in October 2017, my friend Aarat and I took a plane to Tbilisi. As usual, I had the whole trip planned in advance, wanting to see as much as possible in just ten days. In the end, it turned out quite differently - an eventful, crazy roadtrip from elegant Oriental Baku to the Berlinish chaos of Tbilisi, over snowy mountains to floodprone towns, not to forget my favourite day clambering around an old cave town near the birthplace of Stalin. I made lots of new friends and even though I didn't get to see Armenia this time around, I am now confident that, if I have to, I can drive down a mountainpass with summer tires in a snowstorm.
